My (2m) 70cm (23cm) EME history

I wanted to try EME on 70cm for many years. Unfortunately, every time I was close to make 70cm EME antenna, my 2m system went down and history was to begin once again, hi! In 2004 when I lost my 2m EME antenna again I decided that this time I will try to build two EME arrays in the same time. I decided to choose I0JXX antenna design as it has very clear pattern and good F/B - it should decrease my TVI problems.

Buliding 70cm antenna and listening for the first 70cm EME signals

I tried open wire feed system for the first time and it was a challenge for me. I wanted to be ready before EU WW EME CONTEST 2005 but there was not to much time left. I managed to complete antenna, but still had no preamp and any QRO. During contest I was very happy to make my first RX tests with temporary poor preamp and to hear 70cm EME signals for the first time. I was not able to make any qso with 50W in shack, but was happy to get QRZ from HB9Q.

My first contact with DL9KR and first outside Europe station - NC1I

I made several attempts to make my first qso on CW random, but I did not had any luck. I was going to hunt for big guns during Italian EME Contest 2006. Of course Mr Murphy visited me and destroyed my preamp, but I still had my 125W PA running. At the end of the contest I managed to work Jan DL9KR for my first ever EME qso on 70cm band. QSO was followed by my son Maciek SP7MC, who also worked Jan. Many thanks Jan and congrats for great ears! Wow, now we are infected by 70cm EME virus;)

See You via the moon. Chris
